The BEST Buns
These buns will MAKE a meatball sub, eggplant parmesan sandwich or any sort of hot juicy hoagie. Because really a sandwich is only as good as the bread.
Time: 2 hour 15 mins
(active time 15 minutes, baking time 15 minutes)
Ingredients:
- ⅓ cup water
- ⅓ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 ¼ cups flour
- 4 tsp sagar
- 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 1 ½ tsp of bread yeast
- 1 large egg white
- 1 Tbsp. water
Directions:
- Add ⅓ cup water, milk, egg, butter, salt, flour, sugar, herbs and yeast into bread machine in manufacturers’ recommended order or if by hand dissolve yeast, sugar and water together, then add milk butter and egg and finish off with dry ingredients.
- If using a bread machine, select the dough cycle only. If by hand, knead together and then let rest in an oiled bowl covered with plastic wrap for about an hour (want dough to double in size)
- After the dough has risen, divide into 6 equal pieces. If you are making hamburger buns create a round disc, if making hot buns roll into a long log. Do not overwork dough here. Be quick!
- Place on a greased cookie sheet and flatten the dough.
- Cover and let rest until doubled in size about 30-45 mins (sometimes if the air is not right or if I over knead the dough they don’t double in size. It’s okay! They still bake well but are a bit denser).
- Make an egg white wash. Combine one egg white and water and brush the buns. Sprinkle with sea salt or herbs or sesame seeds and bake at 375 for 12-15 mins
- Let cool, cut and pile high and deep with whatever filing of your choice
